Trainee Program
Trainee Program
Our graduate development philosophy
To be successful in transportation finance which is our core area of business, our strong belief is to create and maintain business relationships. One of the keys to these relationships is our understanding of the business of our international customers. We, unlike most of our competitors, fully focus on transport. The consequence of this strategic choice is that our employees are not only excellent international bankers, also committed to and knowledgeable about transport.
The international DVB graduate perspective
We know what is going on in the world of transportation and finance. We are present in all the major markets and in most of the prominent financial centres of the world. We offer talented graduates the opportunity to work in this international, highly professional and customer focused environment, in two of the key sectors in the world economy, banking and transportation. We believe in learning-by-doing and therefore our trainees are given the opportunity of working in different DVB offices for a period of around 18 months. Frankfurt and London would anyhow be an integral part of the program with Rotterdam, Bergen, Piraeus and New York being the remaining options of periodic stints. You would therefore be provided with the opportunity of working in a truly international environment in your exposure to different countries and cultures.
Banking within DVB
During the Graduate Programme you will get familiar with our banking business process and you are likely to get assignments in: Credit or Risk Management, Marketing/Relationship Management, Corporate Finance, a service unit in our head office, e.g. Portfolio Management. If DVB has an office in your home country you are likely to start there to get a bit familiar with our company and culture.
Training and Development actions
During the Traineeship you will receive banking courses covering issues such as credit analysis or syndicated loans. Which courses we chose will depend on your basic university training. Part of the Traineeship are also training courses on matters like presentation and negotiation skills, business communications or use of software applications. You will be participating in international conferences where possible. Two times per year we organise a graduate meeting, ideally combined with a project or seminar. The intention is to share experience and expertise. The results of the "lessons-learned" and your impression of DVB, its business philosophy, its business processes, structures etc. may be presented to the DVB Board.
A team to help you to be successful
During every assignment you will be reporting to the local manager, who would act as your coach and who would be responsible for the success of your Traineeship within the regional office. He/she is the one who reviews your development progress and the quality of your performance both skill and competency wise. As you will be working in several offices, you will be reporting to several managers. The Group Human Resources Manager in Frankfurt will be coordinating the Graduate Programme. He will be monitoring your development in order to ensure that your development is in line with the mutual expectations. He will also act as your mentor, a person you can always address with questions about your personal and professional development. Where possible, you will be linked to a "Buddy", a junior colleague who ideally was a trainee him or herself within the last three years. Our Graduate Trainees can be sure that they are looked after very well and that there will be colleagues available that will assist to make a continued success of the Graduate Programme. At the end of our development program you will know the basics of transportation finance, especially within one of our business units, and you are familiar with the company culture and be ready for a first assignment in our Bank.
